Bruce Brodeen of Not Lame Records - No truer title will you see in the coming weeks, folks. The Boolevards play `real pop`, the kind of power pop that fans of the late 70s skinny tie power pop crave. If you are a fan of the bands on Titan Records, early The Romantics, The Flashcubes(big time!), The Scruffs, The Heats, The Wigs, The Poppees, early The Rubinoos, "Shake Some Action"-era Flamin` Groovies -- well, you have found a slice of heaven to jump all over with "Real Pop". Translation: Celebrate!! It really is a major find for fans of this era and will surprise many, many folks. Quite awesome! The spirit of these classic hooks and magical backward glancing threaten to overwhelm the power pop fans, that is how classic the sounds of this album are for fans of this period of `power pop`.The Boolevards are a major find and Extremely Highly Recommended

Put these guys on a bill with The Offbeat, The Pleasers, and The Fore and you would have a splendid, magical evening of pure, unadulterated, jangly and harmony-filled pop of the highest order! I love the 17 tracks presented here so much, what'd I'd also like to hear are the 33 tracks that DIDN'T make it on to this little gem! If they are anything like the ones that made it - WOW! C'mon mates, give them up! A rare a case of 'true representation' - their bio/press release (see above) is dead on balls accurate - describing them to a 'T'. The title of their record is also spot on! This is exactly the kind of stuff that I grew up on here in the UK, the stuff that formed my eternal 'pop sense'. A brilliant pop no-brainer if there ever was one!"

Eric Sorenson's Jangle On for May 2009 - I must have discovered this disc on CD Baby about the same time that Bruce Brodeen added the disc to the Not Lame online catalog. In the genre of jangle-pop, this is an early contender for CD of the Year! The disc features seventeen songs – none longer than 3:13 – by the pop trio of John and Joe Nowik and Hugh Murphy. Murphy’s Rickenbacker 12-string and Rickenbacker 6-string guitar riffs chime and ring throughout the songs – so much so, that it’s probably unrealistic to choose a favorite track. The clever jewel case graphics include "Nutrition Facts" that cite 100% teenage angst, two part harmony, hooks and melodies, Rickenbackers and background harmonies...and 0% long guitar solos, drum solos, wordy message songs, loud angry vocals and rap and talking. Long may you run, Sirs John, Joe and Hugh.

Powerpopaholic.com - Merseybeat aficionados will be on cloud nine with this new release. Using the classic instruments of the greatMerseybeat era (6 and 12 string Rickenbacker guitars with some acoustic guitar in for flavoring) and utilizing classic Mersey recording styles (double tracked vocals, a clean guitar sound, two part harmonies, plenty of backround"oohs and aahs," with echoing vocal effects). The brainchild of brothers, Joe and John Nowik and lead guitarist Hugh Murphy, "Real Pop" is chock full of catchy melodies, along the lines of The Wonders (from the movie"That Thing You Do"), The Rubinoos, and Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas. The songs are basic sixties teen angst about girls that remind me of those early Jan & Dean singles. For fans of those early-era Beatles bands (The Fore, The Offbeat) this will be a welcome addition to your collection. The CD label even lists the facts: 100% Rickenbackers, Hooks & Melodies - 0% long guitar or drum solos. If you enjoy thepre-Spector British sound then this is right up your alley. And you have to give props to Joe Nowik and crew for period accuracy, so let your inner-Beatle fan enjoy this one.

Absolute Power Pop – This Illinois band gives us the first of two retro-rockin' discs featured today. Real Pop is just that, assuming the year is 1965. Two and three-part harmonies, Rickenbacker solos, Merseybeat melodies - it's all here in an expert re-creation of the era. And like many acts of the era, The Boolevards are led by brothers - John & Joe Nowik, along with guitar slinger Hugh Murphy. They serve up a generous 17 tracks here, with the highlights being "It's Great", "It's OK", and "It Stinks" (OK, I made that last one up). "Look to the Sun" and "Hot on the Trail of Love" are standouts as well. If you have a picture of Peter Noone hanging on your wall, run - don't walk - to pick this one up.

Rare Rockin' Records – 'Real Pop' is The Boolevards sophomore debut. On this album the lads display a clean cut sophistication approach to the classic merseybeat sound. The Rickenbackers are loud n clear starting from the first powerhouse cut, "Tell Me Baby". Other standout cuts are the sunshiney "It's Great" and Searchers meets Herman's Hermits-esque "Wanna Meet Ya".
